Emergency Iraq

Initiative: Breaking the Barriers Program
Partner / Beneficiary: Andrea Bocelli Foundation

THE PARTNER

UNHCR is the leading frontline global organisation saving the lives, protecting the rights, empowering and building a better future for millions of refugees, forcibly displaced and stateless people.   We work in over 123 countries and we provide support to over 50 million people.
Established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly, since then the agency has helped more than 60 millions of people to restart their lives.   For this reason it has been twice awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for our humanitarian work – in 1954 and 1981.

The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country
