THE PARTNER

The Fondation Saint Luc is a Haitian non-profit Catholic-oriented organization working in the field of Education, health care, community development as well as agricultural and management of emergencies that every year benefit about 90,000 people. Founded by Father Rick Frechette CP, American priest and doctor, and developed and expanded under the leadership of Jean NebezAgustin, the Foundation is the result of over 26 years of working experience in Haiti.

Particular attention is given to the involvement of young Haitians, many of whom have grown up in the orphanages of Nos PetitsFrères et Soeurs, sharing with them a vision of development of Haiti based on hard work, moral integrity, Christian values, and the inspiration gained from young Haitians themselves. The programs of the Foundation St. Luc employ over 1,000 people.

THE PROJECT

Being perfectly aware that art, and music in particular, have the capability to convey concepts like beauty and self-expression, the Foundation has decided to inaugurate the project “Voices of Haiti” in the willingness to allow the most talented students of the Fondation St. Luc schools to express their artistic qualities in the field of singing.
The 3-year project involves the artistic direction of Maestro Malcolm Merriweather, n. 4 teachers of the schools as supervisors, 60 students. Every Saturday, from January23rd 2016, will be held the lessons so structured:
9.00 am Voice warming and vocalization
Music Therapy
Rehearsals
Lunch
Game time /relax
Rehearsals
1.30 pm End of Session

The performances of the choir are held in important moments of celebration, from Easter to the end of the school both in Haiti and internationally. The repertoire is a mixture between folk Haitian and international music. The choir is donning the white and red Haitian colors.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Allow free access to artistic activities;
  2. Encourage the expression of their talents;
  3. Introduce music in the long run as a school subject;
  4. Create the occasion for international attention on the situation in Haiti

  • Number of indirect beneficiaries: 12.500 students of Fondation St. Luc

THE CONTEXT

All schools are equivalent to the state ones and are run by teachers and qualified personnel duly authorized. The school program is in line with that of public schools and is managed by a central committee which is responsible for implementing and monitoring its implementation in schools of various communities. . The Central Committee is in constant dialogue with the local committees, communication that allows not only the answer to the specific needs related to education, but also to the general conditions in which they operate. All teachers are included in a program of periodic training that follows the national education program.

ABF ACTIONS

Andrea Bocelli Foundation supports:

  • Salaries of music teachers and students supervisor
  • Contribution to the artistic director
  • Organization costs
  • Expenses for tools and materials useful for teaching
  • Any National/International travel expenses
